My journey is not unlike millions of others. I have had to overcome great odds in my life, and thankfully I had the courage and strength to overcome it. I consider this truly a blessing. God is a source of inspiration to me, and Messiah represents my faith and my thankfulness for all the talents and gifts this Divine energy has given me.

Webster’s definition of Messiah is a belief in the absolute rightness of a cause….something I think we can all relate. I see Jesus everywhere, even in the middle of the Occupy Movement fighting for the least of us. By using the name Messiah as my artist name is not to say I’m God-in-the-flesh. It is my way of paying homage to what the name stands for: service, love, and savior. We all have the opportunity to serve, love and save someone in our lifetime.

The life of Christ is a metaphor for our lives. I believe that the source of my life and the inspiration for my paintings come from a higher being. Renaming myself Messiah was my way of honoring Jesus the Son and God the Father. I’m giving thanks to my source for being present in every part of my life, not just my art. My life and the life of others inform my work. I try to live my life in service and art is a part of that service. My art allows me to show a different perception of God…what this Divine energy represents: love, guidance, healing, fearlessness, and forgiveness. It is the inner presence of light and peace. God, this energy, is unity not separation.

The intention for my art is to heal and Helen Steiner Rice, in her poem TAKE TIME TO BE KIND, says it best. When someone performs an act of kindness it reminds me that must be the way God up in heaven would like us all to be . . . bringing pleasure to another human’s heart. I am certain it’s true that in serving those around us we serve and please Him too.

In keeping with this poem, we all have the capacity to open our hearts and give back to humanity. We have the power to inspire someone, to lift someone up when they are down, to heal their soul with your heart – just by listening. In this sense, we all can be a Messiah in the world! That’s why I have chosen the name Messiah.
